🌍 The concept
ElementaQuest was born from a very simple challenge: can we make a Pokémon GO without the technology of a AAA studio, just with a world map, a good idea, and a lot of coffee?
The result is a mix of three games I love:
- A TCG (collectible card game) — collect 33 cards, build your deck, challenge other players in turn-based duels with strategy and bluff.
- A cultural Geoguessr-like — each "spawn" is a real location on Earth. You have to find it on the map to unlock it.
- Gamified Wikipedia — each unlocked location tells you its history, geography, and culture. You play, you travel, you learn.
"My dream isn't to have millions of players. It's to have a hundred passionate ones."
🎮 How to play
Geo-Hunt mode 🗺️
A photo appears. You have to guess where it was taken on the world map. The more accurate you are, the more rewards you earn (boosters, cards, titles). Each unlocked location reveals its cultural sheet.
Duel mode ⚔
Choose your elemental monster (Aquonix the Water 🐲, Pyrakos the Fire 🦁, Terragor the Stone 🪲), build your 12-card deck, and battle other players in real time. Each turn, you choose your card simultaneously with your opponent. Strategy, anticipation, rare legendaries.
Simulator mode 🤖
Don't want to wait for an opponent? Play against an AI (3 difficulty levels) to practice before PvP.
✨ What makes the game unique
- 100% free, no pay-to-win. No monetization, no paid boosters, no €9.99 cosmetics.
- Designed for mobile but playable on PC. Installable as a PWA.
- Passionate solo dev. Every card, every location, every mechanic has been personally designed.
- Cultural dimension. You finish each session having learned something about the real world.
- No ads, no abusive tracking. Just the game.
📊 Current state — Early Access
ElementaQuest is in open early access. Here's what's available today:
- 🃏 33 cards across 3 elements (Water, Fire, Stone) + universal cards
- 👹 3 playable monsters with 3 variants each (Standard, Gold, Ultimate)
- 🌍 39 geographical locations to discover
- 🎯 ~10 dynamic missions to progress
- ⚔ Real-time PvP with ranked + casual matchmaking
- 👥 ~6 active testers contributing feedback
The game is updated several times a week. Comments and bugs are read and fixed quickly.
🛠️ Under the hood
For the curious: ElementaQuest runs on a modern, minimalist stack — Vercel for hosting, Supabase for the database and authentication, Realtime for multiplayer, and OpenFreeMap for the maps. No heavy framework, just well-crafted HTML/JS. PvP latency stays under 100 ms.
🚀 Roadmap (short / medium term)
- 📈 More cards, more monsters, more locations (target: 100+ locations by end of year)
- 🌐 Multilingual translation (FR ✅, EN in progress, more to come)
- 🏆 Ranked seasons with cosmetic rewards
- 📜 Narrative quests linked to cultural sites
- 🎨 More elaborate artwork on the cards (collab with an illustrator?)
🙏 For early adopters
